3 Mistakes to Avoid When Washing Organic Cotton Sheet Sets

February 10, 2018

The quality, luxurious, and soft fabric of your sheet sets over time is dependent on how you get them cleaned. Poor maintenance can ruin your fabrics, create unnecessary replacement costs and reduce your nights to a subpar sleeping experience. We don't want that for you, so we've provided 3 simple yet vital tips to remember when having your fabrics and linens cleaned.

  1. Everybody knows cold water helps to keep the fabric in shape because cold water doesn’t shrink textiles. Products made from natural fibers are prone to shrinking, with cold water, the shrinking will be at the barest minimum, and your linens will not lose form or shape or size. Washing gently with cold water is guaranteed to keep your linens and fabrics in excellent condition for many years to come.

  2. People often miss an important point when it comes to using fabric softener; the tendency of the fibers of your fabric getting ruined especially if the fabric softener is liquid. The threads are coated with the softener so they can feel softer, but the finish of the material is destroyed.

  3. The finish is part of what defines the quality of your fabric, and if ruined, then the fabric is a goner as well. An excellent alternative is a white vinegar. White vinegar will not get your cellular structure destroyed.

A word of warning: when it comes to drying your fabrics with a machine, proceed with caution. Organic materials should not be dried too much as this could lead to breakage of fibers. A proper procedure to follow when drying your sheet sets to actually take the laundry out of the dryer when it is still a little bit damp, then press with a warm iron.

Extra care and applying these pointers will be one of the best ways to ensure your linens give you a quality sleeping experience for more years no matter how new or old they may be.
